A Change of Pace

Well I’m back from my blogging hiatus with a new outlook and perspective on my chosen field. For the past few months I’ve been working on my big graduation finale. Most people who are familiar with my style of photography know that I have had my feet firmly planted in the soil of photojournalism for quite some time now. I have buried myself into my graduation portfolio which is entirely photojournalism. I just barely poke my head up to see the light of day, that is how consumed I am. I call it dedication, everyone else sees it as a tad obsessive. Tomato tomahto.

Recently my good friend Jill wanted me to do some photos of her daughter. After reading the above paragraph you can gather that child portraits aren’t really my thing, but I said yes regardless. This would be my first child/family portrait style shoot so yeah I was a little apprehensive, but I could handle it nonetheless. Considering that the last subjects I photographed were sad dogs in dirty kennels, and the subject before that was a sweaty, beer drenched mosh pit, photographing a baby would cake. And it was. I loved every minute of it, I don’t know why I was so against child portraits before. I still love photojournalism but this isn’t a bad alternative.

Beach Season!

Who doesn’t love the beach?  The sun slowly cooking you, kids screaming, people wearing less clothes than they should be, and who can forget the sand?  To be honest the beach sounds great in theory.  All in all the day wasn’t bad I got some nice shots and didn’t get a sunburn.

Metal Mayhem

I’ve been working on my on camera flash technique lately so what better place to practice than a concert?  Right?  These were shot during a local band showcase at the State Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Fl.  The musical genre for the night was metal, need I say more?  Nothing like the smell of cheap beer and good tunes to get you in the mood for some serious shooting.

A concert and a camera always go hand in hand, now add a fill flash and dragged shutter.  You can’t go wrong.

Special thanks to Jake Jones (lead singer of Miasma) for getting me access to the show.

New Developments

My boyfriend recently got me my first Diana+ camera. All I can say is that he knows me too well and in this case that’s not a bad thing. This was my first time shooting with 120mm film, two first time experiences with one gift, gotta love photography.
